New Delhi: In a significant boost to local manufacturing, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved 10 capital acquisition proposals worth a staggering Rs 1.44 lakh crore. Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the DAC greenlit these proposals under the 'Buy (Indian)' and 'Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured)' categories, ensuring a substantial contribution to domestic production.

Key Highlights:

• Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs): To modernize the Indian Army's tank fleet, the DAC has approved the procurement of FRCVs. These futuristic main battle tanks will boast superior mobility, all-terrain capability, multi-layered protection, precision fires, and real-time situational awareness.
• Air Defence Fire Control Radars: The DAC also approved the procurement of Air Defence Fire Control Radars, crucial for detecting and tracking aerial targets and providing accurate firing solutions.
• Forward Repair Team (Tracked): Designed and developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, this equipment will enable in-situ repairs during mechanized operations.
• Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Enhancements: Three AoNs have been accorded to bolster the ICG's capabilities. The procurement of Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels, and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels will enhance surveillance, patrolling, search and rescue, and disaster relief operations.

Earlier Cabinet Approval:

In a related development, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) recently approved the procurement of new engines for the Su-30MKI fighter jets. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will manufacture these AL-31FP engines at its Koraput plant, securing a Rs 26,000 crore contract. These engines will replace older ones reaching the end of their service life and will have an indigenous content of over 54%. The CCS has cleared an order for 240 of these engines.
