The government of Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has launched a significant initiative to boost the adoption and sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in the state. The government has set a target to gradually convert all vehicles used in government departments to EVs by 2030.
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a new initiative to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the state. Under the policy, all government departments can purchase EVs without going through a tender process, and the upper limit on the purchase of vehicles for official events will be relaxed. The government has set a target to convert all government department vehicles to EVs by 2030, with the aim of becoming the first state in India to achieve this goal. To encourage EV adoption, the state government has also exempted tax and registration fees for three years on the purchase of EVs, and this exemption will be valid for five years on the purchase of EVs manufactured within the state. To further incentivize the purchase of EVs, the state government is offering a 15% subsidy on the factory price of the EV. These initiatives are expected to reduce the cost of two-wheelers by around Rs 20,000 and the cost of cars by approximately Rs 1 lakh. The state government is also encouraging its employees to purchase EVs by including them in the advance given for purchasing vehicles.
