WeWork, the flexible office space startup, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US. The company, which was once valued at $47 billion, has listed its assets at over $15 billion. WeWork India, however, clarified that it is a separate entity from WeWork Global and the bankruptcy filing will not affect its operations. The CEO of WeWork India stated that they will continue to serve their members and partners as usual. WeWork clarified that the bankruptcy filing only applies to its locations in the US and Canada.
Samsung has launched a new storage variant of its affordable Galaxy A05s smartphone in India. The 4GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs 12,499 and comes in Light Green, Light Violet, and black color options. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset, has a 6.7-inch FHD+ display, and features a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP main sensor. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 5000 mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging.
Apple has confirmed that it has no plans to release a larger iMac with its M-series chip anytime soon. Instead, the company suggests users consider the Studio Display and Mac Studio or Mac mini as alternatives. Apple recently launched a 24-inch iMac with a 4.5K display, but it does not come equipped with the most powerful processors. However, there have been reports of a 32-inch iMac under development, expected to launch in 2025 with a miniLED display.
OpenAI has unveiled the latest version of its AI chatbot, ChatGPT-4 Turbo, and introduced a new way for users to create their own AI chatbots called GPTs. GPTs are custom versions of ChatGPT that can be programmed without any coding experience by simply describing what is desired. Users will also have the option to bring in outside services. OpenAI plans to launch a centralised storefront where verified builders can share their GPTs, and the most popular ones may earn money for their creators. Enterprise users can create internal mini-chatbots trained on specific tasks or proprietary data sets.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has appointed Elizabeth Mathew as the head of TCS LeaD, a program aimed at promoting diversity and leadership at the senior level. Mathew, a TCS veteran, will be responsible for nurturing leadership talent and overseeing diversity and inclusion initiatives. This appointment follows a series of leadership changes made by CEO K Krithivasan. Additionally, TCS announced several changes to senior management personnel, including the retirement of chief technology officer K Ananth Krishnan in 2023.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued blocking orders against the illegal Mahadev Book online betting app following investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The app is operated by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal from Dubai, and links have been found to be connected to police, politicians, and state officials. MeitY has also blocked 22 other illegal betting apps and websites.
Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, has unveiled its first AI model, called Grok, to a select group. Grok is a large language model with real-time access to information through xAI's social media platform. Musk shared examples of Grok's sarcastic responses to user queries, expressing his admiration for the model's wit. He also praised xAI's platform, claiming it is among the best available.
