Visibility at Safdarjung was reportedly a mere 50 meters.The city's minimum temperature was 8.9 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal. The air quality was recorded as "poor" with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 256 at 9 am.The IMD forecasts continued dense fog throughout the day, with a maximum temperature of approximately 19 degrees Celsius.An AQI between zero and 50 is 'good,' 51 and 100 'satisfactory,' 101 and 200 'moderate,' 201 and 300 'poor,' 301 and 400 'very poor,' and 401 and 500 'severe.'Cold wave sweeps across North India, affecting millionsMeanwhile, many places in north India are left battling severe temperature. A severe cold wave has impacted several regions across North India, including Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh. Low visibility due to heavy fog disrupted daily life in Rajasthan, particularly in Jaipur, where drivers relied on headlights and residents sought warmth near bonfires.Mount Abu in Rajasthan experienced the most extreme temperatures, plummeting to -1 degree Celsius. Frost coated vehicles and open areas, impacting both residents and tourists who had gathered for the Makar Sankranti festival.Other areas also recorded significantly low temperatures. Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, saw temperatures drop to -3.1 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh experienced a thin layer of fog.In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where the Mahakumbh is taking place, the temperature was recorded at 13.4 degrees Celsius. Large crowds gathered for the religious festival, which includes the ritual bathing of Sadhus from 13 akhadas.
