Health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza says war death toll at 31,045

The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said Sunday at least 31,045 people have been killed in the territory during more than five months of war between Israel and Palestinian militants. The latest toll includes 85 fatalities over the past 24 hours, a ministry statement said, adding that 72,654 people have been wounded in Gaza since the war began on October 7.

Kyiv air force: Ukraine downed 35 Russian drones overnight

Kyiv's air force claimed to have shot down 35 Russian drones in various parts of Ukraine, including the capital region, on Sunday.​​ The Ukrainian air force said the downing of the drones occurred in central regions as well as in southern regions, while missile strikes targeted the eastern region which resulted in the injury of at least nine individuals.

Indonesia flash floods and landslide reports at least 21 dead and several missing

Flash floods and landslide triggered by heavy rains have resulted in the loss of at least 21 lives in Indonesia's Sumatra island, seven people are still reported missing, according to officials on Sunday. ​​​Head of the local disaster management agency, Doni Yusrizal said rescuers by Saturday pulled out seven bodies in the worst-hit village of Koto XI Tarusan.

United Airlines jet rolls off runway with 166 aboard

A United Airlines Boeing plane rolled off the runway at Houston Airport. No casualties reported. Passengers were bused to the terminal. United Airlines will investigate. United Flight 2477 had arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport and was on its way to a terminal gate when the Boeing 737 Max 8 left the runway, according to a statement from the Houston Airport System.

Man arrested for trying to enter the US Capitol building with hammer

Christopher Snow, 33, reportedly became 'confrontational' when a police officer identified the hammer during an x-ray scan of his bag and proceeded with further inspection.“Several officers immediately intervened to stop the suspect,” the release continued. “A struggle ensued. [Capitol Police] officers deployed a Taser to stop the individual and take him into custody. A hammer was found inside the bag.”
