India: Apple sets up first subsidiary for R&D

India may soon play a role in the development of Apple’s new products, including research, design and testing. The Cupertino-based company has incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary in India, named Apple Operations India. A regulatory filing by the new entity listed procurement of engineering equipment, leasing of facilities, employing engineers for hardware development and providing failure analysis services to group companies, among its proposed activities. Layoffs for Booking.com on cards

Online travel agency Booking.com could cut jobs as part of a review of its organizational structure, it said on Saturday. The company, a unit of Booking Holdings, said in an emailed statement that it was in the early stages of the review process and no firm decision had been made. "This is a difficult but necessary proactive step to make sure Booking.com remains agile in a very competitive industry and keeps driving customer-centered innovation at pace," it said in the statement. Sewage hurting UP Ganga's water quality: NGT

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has observed that the water quality in the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh is deteriorating because of the discharge of sewage or sullage into the river. Earlier, while considering the prevention and control of pollution in the Ganga, the green body sought compliance reports from various states, including Uttar Pradesh.
